Case Studies
Four industries. One integration platform.
🏭 Manufacturing — Spain
Grupo Antolin — Global EDI Supply Chain Integration
Grupo Antolin, a market leader in automotive interior components operating across
23 countries, ran EDI transactions in all major formats (ANSI, EDIFACT, Odette, VDA)
through a fragmented process that took two weeks per new customer integration.
Cerebrum City’s team deployed BizTalk Server 2006 R2 as a unified ESB layer —
normalizing all formats through a single SAP ERP interface and enabling non-technical
business staff to monitor transactions in real time via a custom EDI web portal.
“BizTalk Server 2006 R2 has proven to be impressive, open, and flexible. We now have a single, advanced solution for the entire company that integrates with all applications.” — Roberto Santamaria, Project Manager, Grupo Antolin

Gulf Coast Seal — AS2 Electronic Invoicing with Full Delivery Confirmation
Houston-based Gulf Coast Seal — a high-performance sealing product manufacturer
for the oil and gas sector — was processing 25,000+ invoices per year through AS2
with no delivery confirmation. A third-party AS2 adapter left hundreds of invoices
silently undelivered due to certificate issues, threatening cash flow on 90-day
payment terms. Cerebrum City’s team upgraded the company to BizTalk Server 2006 R2,
replacing the costly bolt-on with native AS2 protocol support that provided MDN
non-repudiation on every invoice sent and received.
“I sleep a lot better at night knowing that I have records I can get to very easily to confirm that an invoice went out and was received, and show how the recipient replied.” — Jeff Lynch, IT Manager, Gulf Coast Seal

Visy Industries — Eliminating the E-Commerce Logjam Across 300+ Partners
Visy Industries — the world’s largest privately owned packaging and recycling
company with 8,000 employees across three countries — was managing a fragmented
e-commerce environment built from multiple legacy applications. With 60% of all orders
placed electronically, there was no unified monitoring, no standardized partner
onboarding, and bespoke development was required for each new customer. BizTalk
Server 2006 R2 consolidated every partner transaction — EDI, HTTP, FTP, SOAP, AS2,
and more — onto a single platform, cutting new customer integration time by 50%.
“We are now increasing the proportion of business that Visy transacts via e-commerce. This generates savings, because we process a lot more transactions in a lot less time with a lot fewer resources.” — Jeffrey Rochman, E-business Manager, Visy Industries

🏛 Insurance — Financial Services, USA
Unum — $700M Revenue Enabled Through Service-Oriented Architecture
Unum, one of the world’s leading employee benefits providers with 25 million+
policyholders, operated 2,000+ insurance products across 60 completely disconnected
legacy systems. Small business customers faced separate contracts, separate service
reps, and separate billing for each product line. Contract creation took 3–6 weeks
manually. Cerebrum City’s team architected “Simply Unum” — a BizTalk Server
2006-powered SOA orchestrating all data and business logic across the existing legacy
stack without replacement. The result was a unified self-service portal that reduced
contract creation to 72 hours and drove voluntary benefit integration rates from
under 5% to 40%.
“Simply Unum has been heralded as the largest, most complex, and most collaborative project success story in the company’s history. It has become a model for everything we do.” — Cissy Grebowski, VP Simply Unum Program, Unum
